Coolum State Emergency Service (SES) member Dan Quilty was recently presented with the Suncorp Spirit of SES Award. The award is presented to recipients in recognition of their achievements and leadership which demonstrate the ‘spirit’ of SES through an unwavering commitment to helping the community in times of need. Dan who started volunteering at the Coolum SES just after the 2019 bushfires, recounted that he was definitely shocked by the award but appreciated the recognition. “It turns out that there is usually quite a bit more storm activity than fires, and the most eye-opening callout was when we went down to help at Taree and Port Macquarie during the floods last year and just seeing the scale of the devastation.” Leading Field Operations and Peer Support at the Coolum SES Suzie Hancock further sang the praises of Dan stating that he is a standout and an exemplary member of the SES.
