Valdora resealing works about to commence

Long overdue resurfacing works on a notorious section of the Yandina Coolum Road are expected to commence in coming weeks.

Bitumen resealing works on a 5 km section of the road, from just before Banyanda North Street to Valdora Road will start early next month.

Ninderry MP Dan Purdie said he was pleased that TMR had finally responded to complaints about the dangerous condition of the road.

He said in recent years, the section of Yandina Coolum Road from the Sunshine Motorway to the Bruce Highway had become a major thoroughfare, with a significant increase in the volume of heavy vehicles.

“For months now, I have been asking TMR to address the serious safety concerns residents and motorists have raised with me, and after it was recently named in the top 10 worst roads in the state, I jumped in with a local truck driver to film the conditions that motorists experience on a daily basis,” Mr Purdie said.

“From the dips and hollows to the dangerous intersections, congestion and lack of visibility, it’s not surprising there haven’t been more serious accidents on this, and we shouldn’t have to wait for this to happen before something is done.”

“While the resealing works won’t solve all the problems, it is a step in the right direction in our ongoing campaign to get the length of the road upgraded, and I thank the community for their support.”

The work is expected to take approximately one week (weather dependent) and it is hoped to improve the road’s skid resistance, provide a waterproofing layer and help extend the life of the road.
