On late Saturday afternoon local Coolum Police were alerted to reports from eye witnesses of a man stuck in a rip and later not visible.  Police along with other authorities commenced a search and rescue operation after the man was last seen by friends swimming near Stumers Creek Road around 4pm on March 27, where he is believed to have become stuck in a rip.

Helicopters were heard throughout the night as a search was conducted for the missing man.

Sadly, on Monday March 29 at 2pm, Police informed the community that a body believed to be that of the 21-year-old man reported missing in water off Coolum beach since the afternoon of Saturday March 27 had been found.

Police are currently preparing a report for the Coroner.

Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) issued a statement offering their condolences to the family of the missing swimmer.

At 1:55pm on the afternoon of March 29 Surf Life Saving Queensland services located the missing swimmer.

Crews had been searching between Coolum and Peregian Beach since the swimmer went missing on Saturday afternoon.

SLSQ will work closely with all relevant authorities including QPS, QAS and the Queensland Coroner.
