IN A COUP for local Coolum proprietors of all things meat – Budd’s Butchers has been awarded the best Regional Butcher in Queensland at the recent Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) meat awards for 2022.  

The AMIC is the peak body representing retailers, processors, and smallgoods manufacturers across the country. 

Budd’s Butchers won the Regional Butcher Of The Year at the Queensland State awards with the award voted on by industry professionals and encompasses all areas of the business with a focus on quality products and customer service.  

Budd’s Butchers also received ancillary awards in the categories of Pork Sausages and Gourmet Burgers. 

Budd’s Butchers opened five and half years ago in Coolum and is owned and managed by Benn Budd, and Ben stated that the win meant a lot.  

“Coolum is such a fantastic place to run a business and we have been welcomed by locals since we opened the store over five years ago. 

“As an independent business we have been able to take on customer feedback and requests to ensure that our products and services meet their expectations and I believe this has been one of the key ingredients for our success.  

“We are delighted that Coolum is now the ‘official home’ of Queensland’s Best Regional Butcher for 2022 and thank everyone for their support.” 
 
Ben first started butchery in his father’s shop aged 13 in the UK as a ‘clean up boy’.  

Ben’s dad was a traditional ‘village butcher’ and from him, Ben learned the trade, how to work hard, the value of customer service and many family recipes that are still used in the shop today.  

After completing his trade, Ben left the UK in 2007 to travel and gain experience around the world, making his way to Australia where he met his future wife in Brisbane, and eventually moved to the Sunshine Coast to open his own business – Budd’s Butchers. 

Always keen to support the local community via meat trays for raffles Budd’s is a mix of both new and old with their products a combination of ‘new aged butchery’ with traditional components of a ‘village butcher’ from the UK. Their multi-award winning sausages are made using family recipes that have spanned generations, while value-add products are all house made with an emphasis on providing quality, value for money and convenience.
