COOLUM State School gives students so many opportunities to grow and develop. With the opportunities presented to me as a School Captain, for example, leadership development days, I have been able to gain the confidence to speak and share my opinions in a group and in front of a large crowd. I have flourished in this role and have gained the determination and ability to set my mind to a goal, persevere and achieve it.

I have been given the opportunity to be a part of our biennial school musical with this year being The Wizard of Oz. With lots of practice, guidance and feedback, not only did I achieve my goal of being selected to play a part, I surpassed my expectations and achieved a lead role as Dorothy! This was with thanks to my encouraging teachers for always guiding and supporting me to realise I can reach the heights I set for myself.

This whole experience has given me a new sense of persistence, commitment, belonging and resilience as we have gone through many ups and downs throughout the last six months of rehearsals. I’ve made some incredible friendships during this time and I’m so excited to share with our school and broader community just how hard we have all worked to bring this musical to life. It will be incredible. Our musical is taking place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 September. Tickets are still available, you don’t want to miss it!

Coolum State School always puts its students first and has some incredible role models to look up to. I’m so proud to be a part of the Coolum State School community.
