Peregian family crowned bodyboard champs at surf titles

It was a family affair for the Taylor family from Peregian Beach on day four of the 2022 Queensland Surf Festival with three members of the family taking out the top spot in their respective divisions in the Bodyboard Champions. The festival was held at Coolum main beach last week from March 17-22 with the event providing an exclusive qualification pathway for Queensland athletes aiming to compete at the 2022 Australian National Titles. The festival consisted of disciplines including shortboard, masters, longboard/logger, SUP surfing and bodyboarding. QUEENSLAND’S best bodyboard and stand-up paddle (SUP) surfers gathered on Coolum Beach on Sunday, March 20 vying for 17 QLD Titles on offer across multiple divisions and it was a local Peregian family who stunned in the conditions.

Divisions ranging from Under 14 Cadets to over 45’s battled strong southeast winds and the shifting two to three-foot waves Coolum had on offer.

It was a family affair for the ‘Taylor’ family from Peregian Beach – dominating their respective divisions in the Bodyboard Titles and claiming three gold medals.

Matt Taylor (Open Men Champion), father of Zayde Taylor (Under 14 Champion) and Jai Taylor (Under 18 Champion) said he couldn’t be more proud of his sons’ achievements and is looking forward to the 2022 Australian Bodyboard Titles later this year.

“I’m glad the boys didn’t surf against me in the Open’s division because they probably would’ve beaten me today,” laughed Matt.

“We’re so excited to head down to Port Macquarie as a family and compete in the Aussie Titles and hopefully score some great waves along the way.”
