Young twelve-year-old Ocean Buitenhuis from Point Arkwright certainly has the name for a great surf artist and was the lucky winner of the recent Kids Competition on at the Noosa Festival of Surfing – Surf Art Exhibition. Ocean is homeschooled or as his mum calls it – “unschooled” and as part of his curriculum, art proves a big part and when the family heard about the competition it was only fitting that one of Ocean’s lino prints was entered. The lino print of a blue turtle was not only the first place winner but was also sold at the exhibition. Surf Art Exhibition founder Owen Cavanagh who is famous for his wave mural along the Sunshine Motorway said that the kids comp was one of his favourite parts of the Festival Of Surfing. “They are always brilliant and make it hard for the judges – congratulations Ocean – well deserved my friend, bravo!” If you would like to see more of Ocean’s work please head to Instragram and search – ocean.indigo Pictured are Surf Art Exhibition founder Owen Cavanagh with winner of the Kids Competition Ocean Buitenhuis and his winning turtle lino print.
