Coolum Beach Pony Club celebrates championship success

THE COOLUM Beach Pony Club is celebrating a successful Autumn season after strong performances at the recent Zone 6 Pony Club Dressage and Combined Training Championships held at the Pomona Showgrounds.

Young riders from the club achieved outstanding results across multiple disciplines, capping off what members describe as a “wonderful period of growth” for the local pony club both in competition and community involvement.

Sienna Potter impressed in the Combined Training events with two horses competing across the championships. Forrest secured third place in his very first outing, while

Jimmy produced a standout performance to finish second overall.

Meanwhile, fellow rider Mikayla Jones enjoyed a memorable debut in formal dressage competition, riding Arrow to second and third placings in the 13-U26 Dressage class.

Club members said the results reflected not only the commitment of the riders but also the supportive environment that continues to develop around the club.

“There’s been a really positive atmosphere around the club this year,” Club President Heather Kitchen said.

“To see riders stepping into new experiences and achieving these kinds of results is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved — the riders, families, volunteers and coaches.”

Beyond competition success, the club has also been making a meaningful impact within the broader community.

Throughout the summer, the pony club has been working alongside the special education program at Sunshine Beach State High School as part of the Duke of Edinburgh program.

Students involved in the initiative have been helping around the club grounds while also spending time with the horses and engaging with club members.

Teacher Claire Hart said that the program had been beneficial for all involved.

“Horses have a unique way of helping young people feel calm, connected and engaged – I’ve been blown away by the changes I see in the students.

“The students have contributed beautifully to the grounds and, in return, the interaction with the horses and the club environment has had a really positive impact.”
Club President Heather said that she hoped the continued growth would see more local families become involved.

“Pony club is about much more than riding,” Heather said.

“It teaches responsibility, confidence, resilience and connection — and we’re proud to be building that kind of environment here, and we look forward to expanding our impact to the wider community.”
