AT THE start of June, Queensland’s top junior surfers put on an impressive display at the Queensland Junior Surfing Titles Qualifier at Coolum, with qualifiers securing a spot at the Queensland Junior & Grommet Surfing Titles Grand Final, which was held the following weekend on the Gold Coast.

Despite difficult conditions throughout the day, Queensland’s best Under 16 and Under 18 surfers made the challenging surf look effortless, showcasing their talent and adaptability as they battled for valuable Grand Final positions and the opportunity to represent Queensland at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

Coolum’s Brisa Canina demonstrated patience and strategy in the Under 18 Girls final, winning a stacked heat despite catching the fewest waves of all competitors. Her selective approach paid dividends as she found the highest scoring opportunities when it mattered most.

Brisa did not progress to make it onto the team to represent Queensland at the Australian Junior titles. Coming into the event, Brisa was the top seed and narrowly missed out.
