THE MT Coolum Golf Club is helping young players take the next step in their golfing journey with a new junior golfing initiative that provides

a clear and supportive pathway from learning the game through to becoming active club golfers.

Proudly supported by local business Thomson Estate Group, the Junior 369 Competition has been created to bridge the gap between coaching and traditional club competition.

Mt Coolum Golf Club Assistant Professional TJ King said the initiative fills an important gap in junior development and is designed to encourage greater participation while building long-term membership.

“Many young golfers enjoy coaching and practice but can find the transition into formal competition quite daunting,” Mr King said.

“The Junior 369 Competition provides that missing stepping stone.

“It allows players to experience the game in a fun and supportive setting while progressively developing the skills and confidence they’ll need to become lifelong golfers.”

The concept is simple but highly effective.

Junior players begin by playing three holes before progressing to six and eventually nine holes as their scores improve, gradually preparing them for an official Golf Australia handicap and full club competition.

Played on modified course lengths appropriate to each player’s age and ability, the program focuses on development rather than results, ensuring young golfers enjoy the game while learning course management, etiquette, scoring and competition play.

Held every Sunday afternoon with tee times between 2 and 3 pm, the competition is open to eligible junior golfers and costs just $10 per round, including a post-game sausage sizzle and drink.

The relaxed format also creates a welcoming environment for parents and families to become involved and enjoy the club together.

As a long-time supporter of local sport and community organisations, Thomson Estate Group was proud to partner with the club to help launch the initiative.

Director Ben Thomson said investing in opportunities for young people was about strengthening the local community.

“Mt Coolum Golf Club has always been an important part of our community, and creating opportunities for juniors to participate, develop and build friendships is something we’re proud to support,” Mr Thomson said.

“The 369 Competition provides a genuine pathway for young golfers to grow their confidence, develop their skills and ultimately become active members of the club.

“We’re excited to see the next generation embrace the game and enjoy everything golf has to offer.”

The initiative reflects Mt Coolum Golf Club’s ongoing commitment to growing the game from the grassroots level and has had strong early interest.

The Junior 369 Competition is expected to become a key part of the club’s junior development program and help inspire the next generation of golfers on the Sunshine Coast.
