Police appeal for witnesses to Maroochydore incident

POLICE have charged a man following investigations into a serious hit-and-run traffic crash in Maroochydore on the night of December 13.

Around 11.55 pm, police and emergency services were called to Aerodrome Road, near the intersection of Fourth Avenue, following reports that a white Toyota Yaris had struck a group of eight pedestrians.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 38-year-old Maroochydore man, fled the scene in his vehicle following the crash. He was located by police at an Alexandra Parade address a short time later and taken into custody.

One of the pedestrians, a 24-year-old woman from New South Wales, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Three other pedestrians, including two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have since charged a 38-year-old Maroochydore man with eight counts of attempted murder.

Investigations remain ongoing, and anyone with information that could assist is urged to contact police.
