Police and young people come together at Coolum ‘Drop In’

IN JUST six short weeks, the weekly ‘Drop In’, which is held in Tickle Park, Coolum, has gone from strength to strength with up to 70 young people attending the session each week.

The Drop In is successfully engaging young people in a positive way by forging informal relationships with local police by way of games, chats and a free BBQ.

Spearheaded by Sergeant Mark Hastier , who also works for PCYC Sunshine Coast, the afternoon has been made successful by way of local support.

“This is a huge success, and it’s down to the young people here and the families allowing their young people to come and engage with everyone.

“We want the kids to know that we are here to help them, and these kids are good; they really are good kids, and they are having a lot of fun here.”

The fun was evident with all in attendance warmly engaging with the officers and happy to play games and chat.

The Drop In will run each Friday afternoon in Tickle Park from 3.30-5 pm and is free to attend.
