THE PREMIER winter lawn bowls event rolled into action across the Sunshine Coast from July 3, with greens across the region uniting bowlers for the 2026 Sunshine Coast Winter Bowls Carnival, which saw two weeks of competition and camaraderie.

Now in its 62nd year, this iconic event continues to grow in prestige and popularity, drawing more than 2,000 bowlers from across Australia and New Zealand.

Hosted by the Sunshine Coast District Bowls Association, the Carnival spans twelve tournaments across local clubs from the seaside to the hinterland.

With a $50,000 prize pool on offer, including $10 for every game won and major prizes for top performers, the stakes are high, and the greens are ready.

This year’s feature match, “The Barry Sullivan Challenge”, saw Australia take on New Zealand in a Trans-Tasman showdown at Coolum Beach Bowls Club on July 8 at 12.30 pm.

The Australian team came away victorious with a 12 – 7 score and can now claim four consecutive wins.

Sunshine Coast Economy Portfolio Councillor Joe Natoli said events like the Sunshine Coast Winter Bowls Carnival were a perfect example of how we can bring people together while delivering real economic outcomes for our region.

“This event helps deliver the Sunshine Coast Council’s Major Events Strategy, which aims to generate $86 million in economic benefit through increased visitation and local spending,” Cr Natoli said.

“It’s great to see our local clubs and communities thriving as a result.”

Bowlers praise visiting Sunshine Coast  

Carnival Chair Ian Heiner said the event is a celebration of sport, mateship and the unique lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast.

“We’re thrilled to welcome bowlers of all levels – from seasoned pros to passionate amateurs – to experience the warmth of our community and the quality of our greens,” Mr Heiner said.

“With over 2,000 entries, this year’s Carnival is one of our biggest yet.”

The Carnival offered a variety of formats – singles, pairs, triples and fours – ensuring there was something for every bowler.
