COOLUM STATE SCHOOL 

IT’S JUST two weeks until the students at Coolum State Primary School hear the words “it’s showtime” and present their production of DreamWorks, Madagascar Jr: A Musical Adventure.

Madagascar Jr is a cleverly edited 60-minute version of the much-loved animated 2005 blockbuster film.

The musical follows a group of pampered Central Park Zoo animals who unexpectedly find themselves on a journey to the exotic island of Madagascar. There are outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score.

Show Director Jo Nix related that she was incredibly proud of all involved and how far the students had come.

“In February we saw almost 90 excited students audition for a part in Madagascar Jr. and now, after several months of hard work, another awesome Coolum production hits the stage with a cast of 55 members and a dedicated team of teachers.

“It has been an honour and privilege to direct such an amazing group of young and talented people who have been so willing to learn and so fun to work with.”

Jo said that the cast and crew have pulled together as a tight group of friends and have collectively encouraged all involved over the past months during rehearsals.

This will be Coolum Primary’s eighth musical production over 16 years, and the musical performances have been an integral part of building a strong and inspiring culture for the performing arts at the school.

Principal Shannyn Taylor said she too was excited about the opportunities that the musical productions provide and firmly believes that students grow and develop in so many areas by way of participating.

“Our students learn about commitment, dedication, time management, and, of course, stretch their skills in the performing arts!

“A huge shout out must go to Jo Nix and the amazingly dedicated staff at our school who volunteer hours of their own time – it’s a real community, and they produce an outstanding performance!”

Music Director Roz Mackay also commented on the gains which come by way of the performing arts.

“It is so rewarding to see the students really come alive and be proud of the musical magic that they have created.

“Our incredible cast really bring this fun and fantastic soundtrack to life!”

And the audience is likely to be involved also.

“The amazing ensemble will have the crowd singing along and will leave audiences with no choice but to “Move It, Move It!”
