Community Update: Coolum and North Shore Coast Care

Dunes

Members from the Yinneburra Bushcare group, which is part of Coolum & North Shore Coast Care (CNSCC), spent a recent Saturday morning getting their hands dirty and protecting our beautiful coastal habitat. Thanks to the generosity of a new member, the group planted out 30 pandanus. The light drizzle provided the perfect growing conditions – the rain will give the trees a boost, and they will grow to help stabilize the dunes.

Turtles

Community members from Yaroomba were on hand to help CNSCC volunteers rescue a sick green sea turtle, which was then transported to Sea Life Sunshine Coast, where it will be nursed back to health.  If you see turtles stranded on the beach, please do not return them to the water, as they are most likely sick and require specialist treatment. CNSCC volunteers attend to strandings. Please notify them on 0478 435 377.

Award for President Leigh

A huge “congratulations” must be extended to CNSCC’s long-standing President Leigh Warneminde, who has led teams of volunteers in the region for three decades. Leigh has been at the forefront of local conservation work, and her exemplary service has been recognised by BushCare Sunshine Coast.

“Leigh has served our community on the Sunshine Coast in conservation and restoration, caring for our dunes, bushland and turtles,” a CNSCC representative said.

“A lifelong dream of Leigh’s is to have a marine park; hopefully, it will come to fruition. Thank you for all you have achieved, Leigh.”
