ENSEMBLE TRIVIUM

COOLUM music lovers will have the chance to enjoy an evening of beautiful live music when acclaimed chamber group Ensemble Trivium brings its South East Queensland tour to the Coolum Civic Centre on November 6.

Presented by Red Chair, the concert will bring together some of Queensland’s leading chamber musicians for a program that mixes French masterpieces, contemporary music and lesser-known works.

The performance will offer locals the opportunity to experience high-quality live music close to home.

Led by flautist Monika Koerner, a regular principal flute with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Trivium features musicians with impressive Australian and international performance backgrounds.

Koerner will be joined by violinist Anne Horton, former member of the Australian String Quartet, and violist Yoko Okayasu, former Principal Violist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Cellist Alison Smith-O’Connell and harpist Lucy Reeves will also join the ensemble for the program.

Red Chair director Angie Dunbavan said the program offered something for both regular concertgoers and those keen to discover chamber music for the first time.

“This is a program that really shows what chamber music can do,” Angie said.

“There are beautiful, well-loved works alongside music that audiences may be hearing for the first time.”

The concert will move between the delicate beauty of Claude Debussy’s Sonata for flute, viola and harp, the wit and charm of Jean Françaix’s String Trio, and the contemporary sounds of American composer Caroline Shaw’s Limestone & Felt.

The program concludes with Joseph Jongen’s Concert à cinq, a richly layered work combining flute, strings and harp.

The tour will also visit Maleny, Pomona, Eudlo and Cleveland, continuing Red Chair’s work bringing live music and talented performers to regional communities.
