FUNERALS AUSTRALIA 

FOR MANY years, Gregson & Weight Funerals has been part of Sunshine Coast life, helping local families through some of their most difficult moments, and they are a trusted name in the industry.

Now, fifth-generation funeral director Luke Gregson is taking that local experience to a state level after being appointed Queensland Divisional President of Funerals Australia.

As Divisional President, Luke will work closely with members, industry stakeholders and the Funerals Australia National Council to strengthen professional standards, support education and development and advocate on issues affecting funeral professionals and the families they serve.

“I am pleased and honoured to serve as President of the Queensland division of Funerals Australia, to give something back to an industry that is an important part of my life and an opportunity to help and support our members maintain the highest of standards for the local communities they serve,” Luke said.

Luke has been involved with Funerals Australia for several years, including as a committee member and vice president, and will now work with funeral professionals across Queensland on issues including regulation, education and professional development.

Luke said improving and developing regulation, supporting regional funeral businesses and increasing professional development opportunities would be key areas of focus during his term.

Funerals Australia National President Asha Dooley said Luke’s strong connection to both the industry and his local community would be an asset.

“Our Divisional Presidents are closely connected to the funeral businesses and communities they represent.

“They provide an important link between our members, stakeholders and the national Association, while helping to identify the issues and opportunities affecting funeral service in their region,” Asha said.
The appointment comes at an important time for the funeral profession, with changing community expectations and continued discussion around professional standards, regulation, workforce development and education.

Mr Gregson said he was looking forward to working with the Queensland Divisional Council and members throughout his term.

Funerals Australia also thanked outgoing Divisional President Mr Scott Harris for his leadership and contribution during his term.
