COOLUM Colts A Grade team has finished the regular season as Minor Premiers in the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League competition. The team finished the season with 11 wins and five losses.

As Minor Premiers, the A Grade will get the first week of the finals off, and their major semi-final will be played at Coolum on the weekend of August 29-30.

Coolum travelled to the Nambour Crushers’ home ground for the last fixture of the season on Saturday, August 15.

The A Grade ran out winners 40 points to 10 with Joseph Price scoring three tries and kicking two conversions for a total of 16 points. He was ably supported by full-back Mitch McDonald, who was in scintillating form and hooker Hunter Bowen, who was everywhere across the field.

Other Coolum sides had similar success, with the Reserve Grade winning 28 to 6 and the U19 completing the clean sweep with a 14 to 12 victory over Nambour.

The Reserve Grade and Open Women’s finished third on their respective ladders and both will contest the upcoming finals series.

A Grade Captain Joseph Price said that he was proud of the team and what they have been able to achieve this year.

“There has been a lot of belief since the beginning of the season, and it has been great to see some of our Reserve Grade and U19 players stepping up to A Grade when needed,” Price said.

“Winning the minor premiership is a credit to our squad, our coaches and the club, but our sole focus is on winning Coolum its maiden A Grade Premiership, and we certainly have the team to do it!”

The Colts Committee encourages all supporters to raise their voices in support of all the teams during the final series as they chase premiership glory.
