SUNSHINE COAST residents are being encouraged to pull on their favourite flanno on August 14 and, by wearing the farming apparel staple, show their support for the farming families who help put food on our tables.

Friday August 14 marks the 2026 Flanno for a Farmer Day, with workplaces, schools, sporting clubs and communities across the country getting behind the annual Farm Angels fundraiser.

Locally, the White’s IGA group is taking part in the campaign, giving Sunshine Coast shoppers a simple way to support farming families while doing their regular grocery shopping.

From August 5 to 25, participating White’s IGA stores are selling $2 Flanno for a Farmer fundraising tokens, with all money raised going to Farm Angels to help farmers and rural communities doing it tough.

The White’s Group has a proud history of supporting local farmers and stocking as much local produce as possible in their stores, which are located at Peregian Beach, Mt Coolum, Bli Bli and Forest Glen.

For a region like the Sunshine Coast, where the coast and hinterland are closely connected, the campaign is a reminder of just how much local communities rely on the farmers and producers beyond the beachside suburbs.

Farmers face many challenges – from drought, floods and bushfires, mental health struggles, and financial pressures – and these can often have detrimental effects that ripple far and wide across the country.

In an effort to help, Farm Angels has raised more than $1.269 million since Flanno for a Farmer began, providing practical help including emergency financial assistance, food hampers, care packs and mental health and wellbeing support.

Farm Angels chief executive Jason Law said the simple act of wearing a flanno could help send an important message.

“Farming families are facing enormous challenges right now, and many are carrying those burdens quietly,” Mr Law said.

“Throwing on a flanno is a simple way to show they’re not alone, but it’s the donations behind it that allow us to provide practical support when families need it most.”

There is also an added incentive to donate on Friday, August 14, with the Commonwealth Bank doubling donations made on the official day up to a total of $50,000.
