ANZAC Day Services across the region – ‘Lest We Forget’

Verrierdale Dawn Service
The little Verrierdale Hall hosted a small and moving dawn service with Cr Maria Suarez in attendance.

“A beautifully intimate dawn service at the Verrierdale Hall. Thank you to the Hall committee and RFS for putting together a ceremony every year. There is a lot of local family defence history in our rural townships, and I love to hear about these generational connections.”

Mudjimba RSL Sub-Branch Morning Service
The Mudjimba RSL Sub-Branch hosted a dawn service and a march and morning service at 11 am at the Power Memorial Park Cenotaph.

The rain came, and then it stopped again for the service at Mudjimba and Maroochydore MP Fiona Simpson said it was an honour to be at the morning service.

“As always, an honour to be in attendance and sing the New Zealand and Australian National Anthem with the Buderim concert band,” Ms Simpson said.

“Wonderful to see so many from the Mudjimba community in attendance for this moving service that is put together by Mudjimba RSL. The flyover is always special, serving as a reminder of the service and sacrifice of our soldiers.”

Representatives from Maroochy North Shore Lions, Quota Coolum Beach, Mudjimba Residents Association and Division 8 Councillor Taylor Bunnag were all in attendance (pictured) at the morning service.

Bli Bli Morning Service
The Bli Bli community came together at Good Samaritan Catholic College at 9 am for their morning service, which was put on by the Bli Bli Community Association.

Division 9 Councillor Maria Suarez said that it was a “lovely ceremony with great community inclusion of Bli Bli State School, students, Good Samaritan students, Halcyon choir and community members.”

“Thanks to both Air Marshall Geoffrey Shepherd and Air Vice Marshall Peter Yates for sharing your thoughts with our community.

“Peter wrapped the morning nicely with – ‘Thank you to all who have served or are still serving, thank you to the families who support them, and thank you to those who were interested in coming and sharing in the ceremony of ANZAC Day.’”

Also in attendance was Ninderry MP Dan Purdie, who also thanked the large crowd.

“The Bli Bli community turned out in big numbers at this morning’s Anzac Day service at the Good Samaritan Catholic College. Thank you to the BBCRA, Bli Bli SS, combined choirs and GSCC for all their work to honour those who have defended our freedoms and those who continue to serve.”
