No fools to be had on April 1

WEDNESDAY April 1 saw social media taken over by many quite believable ‘April Fools’ Day’ posts, and we here at the Advertiser and the Coolum Sports Club joined in on the fun.

The Coolum Sports Club posted about the world’s first magnetically controlled lawn bowl – ‘The Magneto’, which actually sounds like a great idea and is sure to offer a winning edge in games!

Advertiser editor Vanessa Hall came up with the idea that Coolum was set for a ‘Big Surfboard’. The 24-metre surfboard would be visible from Mt Coolum and was a throwback to the iconic ‘big’ tourist attractions from the 80s, such as the Big Pineapple, which comes in at just 16 metres. The Big Surfboard of Coolum was also going to capitalise on upcoming exposure due to the Brisbane 2032 games and would really “put Coolum on the map!”

Most of the public worked out fairly quickly what the date was and that the posts were all just a little bit of fun.
