IF YOU’RE one of the many locals and visitors who will be venturing out to the iconic Eumundi Markets tomorrow for a colourful Saturday shopping experience, you can now visit the markets knowing that you are also supporting the community and local charities.

Most people think they’re visiting a market; however, they’re actually helping sustain an entire community, with ‘Experience Eumundi’ each year setting aside funds for local community and not-for-profit groups in the area.

Experience Eumundi serves as the marketing and educational glue for all things Eumundi; they also advocate for the town’s growth and wellbeing, and key to that is also giving back.

General Manager Mark Cameron said the markets had always existed to benefit the community as much as visitors.

“Every Wednesday and Saturday, thousands of people visit Eumundi Markets to browse artisan stalls, meet local makers and enjoy one of Queensland’s best-known markets.

“What many don’t realise is that every visit also helps fund community organisations, local projects and essential services that benefit the people of Eumundi and beyond.”

Last year alone, some 1.2 million people visited the markets, and more than $54 million was raised in visitor expenditure, which in turn supported more than 1,300 jobs and helped return around $7.5 million to community organisations, local initiatives and services.

This year’s Experience Eumundi Sponsorship Program will help deliver everything from youth mentoring and equine therapy to hospital equipment, sporting facility upgrades and community events.

Mr Cameron said many visitors had no idea that their visit made such an impact.

“People come here for the atmosphere, the incredible stallholders and the unique experience, but every purchase helps give something back… every market day creates benefits that extend well beyond the market itself.”

Experience Eumundi also supports the fundraising efforts of volunteer groups – allowing a roster of groups to manage the paid parking at the markets. Organisations including Camp Quality, Rotary, Lions, the Noosa Women’s Shed and the Eumundi Historical Association have all benefitted from this collaboration.

“When our markets succeed, our community succeeds,” Mr Cameron said.

“Every person who visits Eumundi becomes part of that story, whether they realise it or not.”
