WHAT A TERM!  
AS TERM 3 draws to a close at Coolum State High School, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on just how much our students have achieved.

Our musicians have again been magnificent, with our Wind Symphony and String Orchestra representing Coolum High superbly at the Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.

Music continues to be one of the great strengths of our school and the standard our young musicians reach never ceases to amaze me.

On the sporting field, our Brahminy Kite Rugby League Academy has had another terrific term. Our girls competed strongly in the Karyn Murphy Cup, while our boys went one better and WON the Sunshine Coast Schoolboys Trophy – a fantastic achievement!

Our students have also been stretching themselves academically. During National Science Week, Coolum High students joined other talented young women from across the Sunshine Coast at the I-WiSH Science and Health Conference, meeting leading scientists, researchers and health professionals and getting a glimpse of where their own futures might take them.

Meanwhile, Book Week brought plenty of colour and fun to the school, with students and staff enthusiastically embracing this year’s ‘Symphony of Stories’ theme.

Perhaps most exciting of all is our current Year 12 cohort. Many of these students arrive at school at 7.30 am for extension subjects, while others remain until 4 pm for tutoring. Their commitment has been extraordinary and, academically, they are shaping up as potentially one of our strongest graduating groups yet.

All of these achievements, and much more, were showcased at our annual Celebration of Excellence held this week. This represents my favourite evening of the school year as it’s where we get to show our community the strength and breadth of our students’ talents, with some of the musical numbers taking the audience’s breath away.

We really are blessed with the most extraordinarily talented students.

With more than 1600 students, there is always something happening at Coolum High – and always another young person giving our community a reason to be proud.
