JUST in time for the onslaught of summer and for those who want to get fit by way of swimming laps, the Noosa Aquatic Centre has reopened its 50m pool after a major three-month upgrade.

More than 2.5 million litres of water have now been returned to the pool, with summer operating hours commencing from Monday, September 14.

The $2.28 million project included a major refurbishment of the 50m pool filtration system and replacement of the Program Pool filtration system.

Acting Mayor Brian Stockwell said the investment would ensure the centre could continue providing safe and reliable facilities for the thousands of people who use it each year.

“This investment in critical infrastructure at the Noosa Aquatic Centre (NAC) will ensure it continues to provide safe, reliable and high-quality facilities for the thousands of people who use it each year,” Mr Stockwell said.

The works are among the most extensive carried out at the centre since it opened in 1999.

Sport and Active Lifestyles Manager Brad Chalmers said Noosa Council had chosen to refurbish the existing 50m filtration system rather than replace it completely, saving about 42 per cent compared with installing a new system.

The approach also extends the life of existing infrastructure while reducing waste and incorporating updated water treatment technology.

The Program Pool is expected to reopen from Monday, September 21, with aquatic programs progressively returning.

These include learn-to-swim classes, squad training, aqua aerobics, lap swimming, masters swimming and triathlon training.
