Peregian Family and Friends invites residents to discuss Queensland’s recently introduced e-bike rules and their impact on local safety at a community forum on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm at the Coolum-Peregian RSL Sub-Branch.
The forum follows a May 2024 community survey and an initial information forum held last year, where residents raised concerns about irresponsible e-bike and e-scooter use. It will bring together perspectives on:
· how the rules have been developed,
· how they are interpreted by the public
· how they are enforced by the police
· the impact they have had on behaviour
· what they mean for people who ride and share local roads and paths.
Speakers are:
Sandy Bolton MP, Member for Noosa — the history of e-bike safety legislation
Dan Purdie MP — the development of the new rules
Sergeant Joel Bryant, Queensland Police Service — enforcement
Dr Alex Bennett, Sunshine Coast Bicycle Users Group — a cyclist’s perspective
There will be time for questions after the presentations. Everyone is welcome to attend, hear from the speakers and take part in a constructive discussion about safety in the local community.
