Education Showcase: Noosa Pengari Steiner School

High School Info Night
THE Waldorf/Steiner Education movement is the largest independent school movement in the world today, and founder and philosopher Rudolf Steiner has said, ‘our highest endeavour is to produce young people who out of themselves are able to find meaning and direction in their own lives.’

Finding meaning and direction is also what most parents are hoping their high school-aged children will find as they complete their final years of schooling, and Noosa Pengari Steiner School would like to show the community their school and invite everyone along to their upcoming information night on Tuesday, May 19.

More than ever before, young people need to find their own meaning and direction to ensure they can successfully navigate the many challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.

Critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration are key capacities that the Steiner/Waldorf curriculum aims to develop in students. It is our belief that education needs to develop the whole human being through Academic rigour, Balanced wellbeing and Creative expression, summarised in our school motto – Academic, Balance, Creative.

Where is Noosa Pengari Steiner School?
Students learn about themselves and the world in our beautiful bushland setting in Doonan. Thoughtfully placed within the coastal hinterland is our brand new Visual and Manual Art precinct, complete with a working forge, our auditorium acoustics provide our choirs and bands with exceptionally high musical performance experiences, and our undercover basketball courts and outdoor education centre are where students learn to take healthy risks and grow their confidence.

Will my child learn what they need to know?
Our curriculum is endorsed by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority and includes the study of philosophy, astronomy, botany, architecture, the history of music, and many other topics that support young people to grow into free-thinking individuals who can make meaningful contributions to their community. This main lesson programme is studied alongside our rich senior elective programme.

Will my child have the same opportunities at Noosa Pengari Steiner School?
In 2017, Noosa Pengari Steiner School made the significant decision to transition from the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) to the NZ Certificate of Steiner Education (CSE).

Our CSE graduates receive a selection rank equivalent to an ATAR but demonstrate their understanding and knowledge through a wide range of meaningful assessment tasks and are not required to sit high-stakes final exams. CSE graduates apply to university through QTAC directly, just as QCE graduates do.

The final assessment of our senior schooling is the Class 12 Project, which is a year-long independent research project chosen by the students and integrates intellectual, practical, artistic, and reflective elements. The students end their schooling by sharing with their community the insights and learnings they have gathered as a result of their journey through this project. This event is held over two days, from November 13 to 14 and is an open invitation to anyone interested in better understanding Steiner/Waldorf Education and our senior school qualification – the Certificate of Steiner Education.

Where can I learn more?
